What's a coaching session with Angela like?
Coaching sessions are typically 50 to 90 minutes and are conducted by phone, FaceTime, Skype, or in person (if necessary). Before starting the processes, there is an initial consultation/session, a couple of questionnaires that help us both identify priorities and desired outcomes. The sessions focus on getting you to your goals and working through obstacles that get in the way. Based on each session, follow-up exercises are sent to deepen the learning and awareness, and keep the forward momentum. The interaction is very open, comfortable, in-the-moment, and fits the pace and style that's most effective for you.
How many sessions are scheduled each month?
Typically, clients will start with 1 to 3 sessions each month. Clients increase or decrease frequency depending on the stage of their goal or urgency of priorities. Frequency of sessions is a personal decision that needs to fit with the way you work best. There are clients who benefit from weekly structure, support, and accountability, just as they would with a personal trainer for example. There are some who only need one actual session each month, with short weekly accountability check-ins via the computer or phone. Others will process information, run with it on their own and then come back to a session monthly or quarterly to keep their focus and progress. Angela is extremely flexible, and only wants what will work best for her clients.
How long does the process take?
The length depends on the objectives you define at the beginning. Some clients come to coaching with a specific goal that can be addressed in a few sessions; some come with multiple goals, usually related. Within 3 to 6 sessions, clients generally feel a strong sense of direction and momentum. Some clients continue on their own from there with only occasional 'check-ins', while others find it helpful to stay engaged with the process, and we move on to their next goal.
What results can I expect?
Clarity, focus, confidence, deeper awareness, motivation, and a feeling of freedom that comes from knowing you actually do have control and options that you are able to clearly identify, and make choices with confidence. You can also expect to experience fear and doubt. The process can challenge you and push you out of your comfort zone, which is a measure of success. But remember that a good part of coaching takes place between sessions in the form of assignments, activities, exercises and action items that help you maximize the time spent in sessions.
What's the cost?
Sessions range from $130-180 and are paid in 2 or 3 session increments in advance; the more sessions you sign up for, the larger the discount per session. There is a flexible sliding scale for those who cannot afford the full fee. Angela feels so strongly about what coaching will do for you that she will do her very best to work with everyone's situation.
What's the difference between coaching and therapy?
Coaching works primarily with experiences in the present moment and focuses on achieving future-oriented goals. Therapy tends to focus on identifying and understanding past experiences that effect the way we're showing up in the world. Since there are many forms of therapy and coaching, lines can get crossed between modalities, and coaching can often feel therapeutic. There are also many therapists who are certified coaches, and many coaches with therapy backgrounds and training. Angela has an organizational development and clinical psychology background and training.
What are important factors when choosing a coach?
The coaches background, experience, and style of coaching is key. In addition to that, being able to develop strong rapport and a meaningful connection with you should also be important. You have to feel comfortable and at ease, feeling that your coach hears and understands you.
How do I know if coaching is for me?
There's an initial consultation to clarify what brings you to coaching and what you hope to achieve. Coaching is most effective when there is a deep desire and urgency for, as well as commitment to change. When compromise, delay, and procrastination are no longer options, then coaching is for you.
